Who is Ali

Ali Alabyadh is a marine scientist, PhD candidate at KAUST, and an underwater photographer and filmmaker whose work is rooted deeply in the Red Sea. His scientific journey began with a fascination for how coral ecosystems survive, adapt, and rebuild themselves after disturbance. This curiosity grew into full‑time research focused on coral reef restoration, where Ali studies the resilience and recovery of reef systems under a rapidly changing climate.

Working underwater as both a scientist and a visual storyteller, Ali realized that photography and filmmaking could bridge a gap that data alone could not. Through his lens, he translates complex scientific narratives into emotional, accessible stories, revealing the beauty of marine life, the fragility of coral habitats, and the urgent need to protect them. His imagery captures more than scenes; it captures processes, relationships, and the hidden rhythms of the underwater world.

Today, Ali’s mission is to merge science, storytelling, and advocacy into a single practice. Whether documenting coral restoration work, filming the quiet movements of marine life, or sharing the latest conservation challenges with global audiences, he aims to inspire a deeper connection to the ocean. His work encourages viewers to understand, appreciate, and take action toward preserving the ecosystems that sustain life beneath the surface.
